Breathable films can be used in a wide range of fields such as functional clothing, medical clothing, hygiene products, packing materials, electronic/electrical products, construction industry, agriculture industry, etc.
In functional clothing: A microclimate will be formed in clothes when the sweat is producing from the skin. When the sweat is trapped in clothes, people will feel cold and wet, resulting from the forming of moisture layer, while breathable films can remove the moisture from the skin to outside of the clothes and reach to the water vapor transmission effect.
In construction industry: Breathable films are used at the top of roof or wall insulation layer to help transmit the water vapor and protect the insulation layer at the same time, which prolongs the life time of houses.
In electronic/electrical products: Breathable films protect the products from water, salt, corrosive liquids, etc. Especially when used in sealed housing/casing, breathable films help release high pressure gas to balance the pressure inside the housing/casing, which reduces the pressure that sealing strips sustain and lessens the water droplets from producing.
However, plastic films made of such as LDPE, LLDPE, MDPE, HDPE, PP, PET, TPU, PTFE, etc. show poor breathability, which limits the range of their applications where air and moisture breathability is needed.
To broaden the usage and applications of films, GO YEN CHEMICAL INDUSTRIAL CO., TLD. (GYC GROUP) developed GY-MCP Series ─ Micropores Opening Additive for Films. The production process of microporous film is as follows: Mixing GY-MCP Series with the plastic material and plastifying to form a melt, pressurizing the melt, extruding and cooling the film, pre-heating and stretching the base film, cooling and setting. The pre-heating and stretching process not only forms micro open pores on the film, through which can the air pass, but also improves its mechanical properties, surface gloss and transparency resulting from the stretched high polymer. Most of the microporous films are produced through flat film extrusion (casting), while some of them may be produced through blown film and stretched in the machine direction afterwards. GY-MCP Series is suited for use in the applications of flat film extrusion, blown film, uniaxial orientation (machine direction or transverse direction), biaxial orientation, etc.
